How Much Do Music Lessons Cost

Investing in Music Lessons: The Real Cost of Unlocking Your Full Potential

One of the first questions our prospects ask us is, “How much do music lessons cost?” And the answer to that is going to vary depending on a few factors including location and provider. In the Boston area I’ve seen lessons range from $25/hr to $150/hr.

Here are some things to keep in mind when considering price as part of the music lesson equation.

In-Home VS Music School:
While my business started out of my home as a private provider it eventually grew into a full grown music school. So I understands the pluses and minueses of both. I know I felt like I could provide better lessons to my students when 100% of my time was focused on them.

With in-home lessons, I had a special studio setup for teaching, but that is not the case for most in-home lessons. I have often taken lessons down people’s basements, in a spare bedroom or a living room. Some were clean. Some weren’t. Some spaces I felt safe in. Some I never went back to. You just never know what you are going to get sometimes.

When taking lessons from an in home provider, ask them for photos of the studio space for you to determine whether or not it will be a good fit for you or your child.

I also was the only person working in my business so customer service was often taken care of between lessons or in off-hours. But, since I didn’t have a ton of overhead, I was able to charge lower prices. Parking was sometimes tough on my street.

With music school lessons, I make sure that our facilities are cleaned regularly by a professional cleaning team. Our spaces are meant to be used as music studios and our teachers have everythin they need to conduct lessons without the distractions you might find at an in-home studio.

We have a great customer service team that provides help before and during school hours. If you can’t make your lesson or running late, no worries. Our team will be there to help you. You often get better lessons and customer service because the teacher can focus on what they do best - teaching.

With more over head does come higher prices. Music schools charging higher prices are usually hiring experienced teachers that demand a higher price. None of our teachers earn less than $30/hr so there is no way we cold possibly charge $25/hr.
