Are you too old to start taking music lessons?

The story goes something like this:

When I was younger, I love music. I had dreamed about playing [instrument] but no one in my family really played music. As I got older, life happened, but my love for [instrument] never stopped. I’m about to retire and would like to finally learn how to play [instrument] but I’m not sure if I’m too old. I really wish I had done this 20 years ago.

We here this story over and over and over again. But there’s good news!

You are NEVER too old to start learning to play and instrument.

You’re never too old to have fun learning and playing music!

As a music teacher, the majority of the students I teacher are over the age of 50! Yes, you read that correct. The majority of my students that I currently work with as part of Lauren Bateman Music School are in their 50s, 60 and 70s. I even have a few students in their 80s and 90s.

We all have things we wished we could have done 20 years ago, but we can’t control that. All we can do is focus on today, and learning to play an instrument it 100% possible for older learns.

Learning music can help:

  • Keep your mind sharp

  • Maintain motor skills

  • Improve hand strength and flexibility

  • Improved mood

  • Provide a great emotional outlet

There are so many benefits to learning music whether you are young or old. So if you are asking yourself the question, ‘Am I told old to learn ________?’ Then I highly recommend that you reach out to the amazing teachers at the Lauren Bateman Music School. We pride ourselves in helping our adults students learn to play and love music.
